Himalayas
A visit to Himalayas is truly a divine experience. To many Hindus the much hyped Amaranth yatra is a life long ambition. I think its a sort of revelation of how serene, quiet and astounding nature can be.
The enormity of the mountains, the ice covered peaks, the wilderness of the tracts, all induce a humbling experience in the traveller. Words sound stupid when you try to describe the beauty of the place. If you are here, it looks like I have travelled a long distance and explored a lot. But in reality, I haven't even scratched the surface of the depths of mother nature.
The Himalayas, they are so pure in colour, splendour and magnificence.
Why should someone make such a journey into wilderness? Isn't it madness to go into a secluded, isolated area where people struggle day in and out to be alive? When all comforts are available under your arm? Don't you think its madness? No I don't! When you travel, you experience newness. You come in contact with new cultures. New culture shows us an entirely
new perspective of life. The way people live, behave and dress are all new. When there is some thing new, the mind starts paying attention. It no longer sees the routine train coming down the platform, people getting in, getting out. It starts collecting experiences, new images that are stored for future use. Remember when we were young, every thing is a wonder, the whole world is new and interesting. There are avenues to be explored, things to be learnt,people to met;
The life is like an interesting bolloywood movie. Happening! Similarly travel is a way to recharge your human batteries.
When you go to a place like Himalayas, the moment you step in, the chill envelopes. We react to it and wrap ourselves in something warm. I say comfort is relative. When its hot, we would like to be under an AC. It comforts us. When its cold, we crave for warmth. When you get it, there is a simple pleasure in it. You are at the window of cold and are tasting it from a close proximity. It some how makes it a joy full experience. I think this is what people mean by saying "Just Chill!"
Every thing is at a stand still. There is no movement, here is no haste, the stream is in no hurry to join the river, the spring is spraying water leisurely, the lark sings a lazy song. None of them are going anywhere. Well why should they?Its their place. Their right full place, because of which its a heaven! A heaven where we all want to settle,but alas! can only window view and pass along.
The travel too is slow paced, the terrain is too high for minions like us to conquer with our mini jeeps and vans . No sir, they are not enough! Nature here might be giggling in itself seeing the limited means of man. Or may be its all a conspiracy nature is playing against us to force us to maintain the harmony of this place! Or maybe she simply wants us to enjoy the slow pace of life here. What ever be the reason, we pass along the mountains, gigantic mountains, huge snow mounds doing nothing but standing still. Its the silence that touches you. Silence they say is the most terrifying thing. Except the whining of the car engine, we get to hear nothing Vast expanses covered with snow, amid which nude rocks standing up as if a model standing up on a pedestal showing to the world the beauty which he is proud and haughty about. Like the statute of David straight, erect and proud, afraid of nothing and yet maintaining a calm demeanour.They stand staring at us. While we keep proceeding taking photos, recoding video, I wonder, Can we capture experiences and what we feel? What is a photo? But for a mere image of past? Why do we do this? Trying to preserve feelings as if they were a pickle. I think its because we want to have pointers to direct our memory, to help recollect the experiences we had undergone.
Far ahead, we see a thin veil of fog descending on to the land below. As if a mother is spreading her arms inventing the child into her bosom. So gentle and lovable her embrace is! It completely envelops the land and the land relishes under the mist, as if it wants to drink in all the love that's being showered. I was told, its snowing at that place and I suddenly start feeling out of place. As we approach I feel as if we are unnecessarily encroaching a personal space. But as we move closer, stepping into the holy embrace, I realise that I am also a part of this personal place, and this is my true place and no where else. I ought to have belonged here but for some reason ran off and never returned. It sort of sweeps you off your feet and then after a moments time consciousness begins to dawn upon you and you start thinking. You feel as if you were intoxicated by some divine spirit which enticed you into something you have never seen or experienced before.
This thinking and newness is what breaks the monotony and brings in a welcome break from work. This is what makes travel exciting, enriching and enjoyable. So travel to nature when ever you can. I have my batteries fully recharged. Now its your turn pal!
