Violence against Indians in Australia

Normally, the Indians tend to save a lot and remitt money to their home land spending little or nothing in the country they are earning. After all they go there to earn and anything better than their income back home makes them happy. Also since$1=50 RS, this considerably lowers their wage expectation. On the contrary, domiciled workers are at a disadvantage. Their life styles and expectations are different and they expect better wages. This creates a difference in wage expectation between two groups and since the chief aim of capitalism is profit maximization, they companies tend to hire Indians and Chinese. This results in unemployment among domiciled citizens and in turn spawns hatred and in the heat of the moment, they resort to violence.

Back home we too witnessed similar outbursts in Mumbai against the Biharis and other north Indians. Here too, its the same issue. But what is the solution to the problem? Violence is surely not a solution. The solution definitely is reservation. I feel natives have the first right over jobs at least the low skilled jobs in a particular locality. Only excess jobs or high skilled jobs that an economy cannot produce need to be taken up by foreign talent.

I want to do some straight talk regarding people, skills and livelihood. There exist some people who cannot fend for themselves. This is a reality. and unless you are an Ayn Rand worshiper, you too will agree with that. It is for such people that society should have a safety net. There is nothing wrong in that, there are no grasshoppers and ants involved a.k.a those who work their ass off and those who enjoy benefits at someone else's cost. But the point here is who will decide who is incapable of fending for them self and who needs aid? Given an opportunity, everyone would want to escape work even it means compromising a bit on lifestyle.

May be the solution is to find a way to motivate people to work just for the sake of it. For the sake of satisfaction derived out of doing a good job. If reward is divorced from effort, if reward is internal than external, may be there will be some change.  But till then reservation or some kind of incentive for employers employing locals could be a solution.
